Valuable breeding lines, especially for sugar beet, are multiplied using tissue culture methods in the PLANTA laboratories and are stored for a lengthy period in vitro (lat.: "in glass").

Pure-bred lines for several crop species are produced in a short time with the aid of double haploids.
