Traditional and Modern technology combined
Over the years, a number of plant breeding methods have been developed and fine-tuned regularly. In order to secure the indispensable role of plant breeding within the agricultural sector, the continuous development of R&D is necessary.
Van Rijn – KWS B.V. support this process of development.
Part of this development process is the use of biotechnological methods, which have been on the increase since the 1970s.
It has become clear that the traditional plant breeding methods will not be replaced by the new technologies but that the new plant breeding methods will supplement and support the traditional methods.
Finally it must be said that it is not the plant breeding method that is the most important. The main priority is the development of new varieties with positive characteristics that are required in a changing world, together with food safety of the new developed potato varieties.
